Rising ground water
Reported in the Pavement Damaged/Cracked category by Ian Marcusfield at 15:10, Wed 9 April 2014
Sent to Barnet Borough Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 463971.
Continuous water flowing over pavement making pavement slippery and dangerous. Pedestrians are walking in the road to avoid slippery pavement and it's very dangerous as cars turn off the A41/A1 to find a pedestrian crossing just down and out of sight from the corner. Affinity water have visited many times and say that after having tested the quality of the water for suplements, it is not mains water. Someone needs to take responsibility and dig up the area to resolve this ongoing problem.

Can someone at LBB please get the water and sewer companies together on site and sort out this dangerous problem.
I understand that both water and sewer companies are seperately saying "it's not their problem". Well the problem must belong to one of them and the council should use its powers to sort it out.Posted by Ian Marcusfield at 17:54, Wed 7 May 2014

About 2 weeks ago, the area was excavated by I believe contractors on behalf of Affinity Water. They said they're were no water leaks. They filled the hole with fresh soil. Some days later when the fresh soil was saturated from the leak, it started as before.
As I have said previously, A LBBarnet representative has to be on site, together with Affinity Water and the Waste Water Co representative while the area is excavated. Someone has a leak and if left, pedestrians will either slip on the wet pavement or get run over as they walk in the road, at the junction of A1 to avoid the wet slippery pavement. Heads need banging to resolve this issue, or do I need to get the councillors involved. Thank You.Posted by Ian Marcusfield at 20:55, Wed 4 June 2014

The ground was excavated 2/3 months ago by contractors on behalf of Affinity. They could not find the source of water, infact, they said there was NO water.
If the site is visited today, you will see that they obviously have no idea what they are doing. The water continues to flow, possibly more than before, making the pavement dangerous and slippery. Pedestrians are walking in the road at the blind side of a traffic corner off the busy A1/A41 and it's a situation waiting for an accident to occur.
Yet neither the water supply company or the sewage company accept responsibility. Can both those parties attend together with an official from the LB Barnet before someone gets killed. You have been warnedPosted by Ian Marcusfield at 09:16, Thu 3 July 2014

Still leaking.
Still slippery underfoot and pedestrians are either likely to slip, or be run over by cars as the pedestrian avoids the slippery pavement by walking in the road by the junction with the A1.Posted by Ian Marcusfield at 12:30, Thu 31 July 2014

This has persisted for more than a year. It's water from the mains believed to be travelling down BT ducts until it can go no further and it percolates up to street level.
If it freezes in the winter it could be lethal.
You are on notice as to the danger of letting this problem persist.Posted by Ian Marcusfield at 14:11, Thu 28 August 2014

The ground has gone dry for about a week. Not sure if that's down to the driest September for 60 years, with a very low water table, or if the problem has been fixed.
Did anyone do anything that they think might have cured the problem. If not, its just a temporary respite due to the exceptionally dry September.

it's leaking as bad as ever.
It was appeared to have stopped during the September/October very warm and dry period.
The water co understand it's rising through BT trunking, but they don't know where it's getting in.
This has gone on for years now, and it's DANGEROUS on the footpath. Can someone at the council please bring pressure to bear on the utilities and clear the problem before an accident happens. You have been warned and will be held responsible in the event of an accident. Thank you.Posted by Ian Marcusfield at 21:26, Mon 24 November 2014
